Ways to publish
There are four main ways to publish depending on the type of document and the author’s profile:
1. Self-archiving
Recommended for most documents.
UPM members (academic staff, administrative staff, and students) can directly deposit any type of scientific or academic output.
Main steps
-
Create your user account in the UPM Digital Archive using your institutional email:
- xxxx@upm.es (academic and administrative staff)
- xxxx@alumnos.upm.es (students)
- Access the deposit form and upload the metadata plus the full PDF.
- The repository staff will review and validate the record before its final publication.
Ideal for: articles, conference papers, books, chapters, reports, etc.
2. Delegated Archive
Undergraduate Final Projects (TFG) and Master’s Final Projects (TFM) are incorporated through a procedure managed by the libraries of the Higher Technical Schools or Faculties.
Procedure:
- Follow the specific instructions published by your School:
- Submit the project to your centre’s library, which will handle the deposit in the UPM Digital Archive.
Do not make a direct deposit of TFG/TFM via self-archiving.
3. Automatic Publication: Doctoral Theses
The doctoral theses defended at UPM are automatically incorporated into the repository, in accordance with current regulations.
- Theses defended from 2011 onwards: They are published automatically under Art. 14, sections 5 and 6 of Royal Decree 99/2011, dated 28 January (official doctoral studies).
- Theses defended before 2011: Express authorisation for publication is required. Download, sign and send the following document: Publication permission – Theses prior to RD 99/2011 (or the English version if applicable).
